An amazing powerful film I came across today and I wanted to share it with you girls. As we feel we don’t see enough black female role models who can educate us of history that hasn’t really been taught in our schools or seen on our TV screens. The film is called ‘Shake Loose Memories’. It’s based around a famed poet, activist, and professor. Sonia Sanchez. She’s not only a poet, but she is a force of nature. She co-founded the Black Arts Movement in the ’60s, and was one of the people responsible for establishing a Black Studies program at San Francisco State University. The film weaves together interviews with Sanchez with performances of her poems by T.C. Carson, Toshi Regan, Amiri Baraka, and Oscar Brown Jr.

This film ‘Shake Loose Memories’ by filmmaker Jamal Joseph takes us viewers on a “musical journey through the life, art and activism” of the Temple University Professor. Unfortunately if you want to see the whole film it is currently screening at the Urban World Film Festival in New York City. But lets hope it comes on dvd or online for us ladies to watch in the UK.

Is this something you would be interested in watching more of? Do you the UK needs more education on Black History?
