Peeks Natural Hair Journey Prt1

Peeks Natural Hair Journey Prt1

Hi there Guys,
I’ve been growing out my hair from being relaxed for about 6 months now and I have found much joy in wearing wigs and hair pieces whilst i grow my natural hair. Its not always easy finding short hair styles whilst growing your hair. I’ve been asked many times what my real hair is like and how I manage it so I thought it be good to start documenting my natural hair journey so any of you guys out there in a similar situations can get some tips from my experience.

If you have been growing your hair natural and have a few tips you could share please leave a comment below.

I started transitioning the same time as you and it looks like we have the same curl patten. I am also doing a long transition as I do not think I could ever do the BC. It just would not suit me. I will definitely follow your natural hair journey 😀

Hi Peeks, I am also natural, and I just wanted to say I transitioned for a year before I did the big chop because I’ve always had long haie and was scared of how i would look with short hair. But when I did cut it I had enough length for me to be comfortable with. It’s now been six months since and I am so loving my natural hair. Some products that work really well for me are the Giovanni & Taliah Waajid lines. Keep it up & much success to you!!

@MOAMNETWORK I have pics and videos on my YT channel. And it’s newbies like you that keep me inspired! I love seeing women embrace what they were born with! My goal is to grow healthy hair and if I get long, big hair in the process then, HOLLA!!!! But I love you ladies channel! You both have a free spirit about you that I admire. Keep doing what ur doin’!

  52. lilmami4lyfe867

@MOAMNETWORK i do have a twa (teeny weeny afro) and i did die the whole thing red but it got waay too dry even with moisturizer so i did another big chop and cut all the dyed ends off. i ownt dye my hair again unless its a light brown because when i dye it gets dry. i did howver start using tee tree oil and that seems to keep my hair nice and soft maybe u can try that for your dryness instead of leave in all the time. or castor oil.

  53. MeNapturally

I’m natural as well Peeks, but I cut mine completely off. I did find that the Taliah Waajid hair products help grow my hair and it leaves your hair soft and manageable, it defines your curls and it smells great. Good Luck on your Transition.

  54. ncatstate

@MOAMNETWORK My relaxed hair was about 8 to 10 inches long. That was 2 years ago. Now, my natural hair is at my bra strap when it’s flat ironed straight and it’s at my shoulders in it’s natural curl state. Shrinkage!! Oh well…I love it anyway. :-)

  55. ChristinaTypeClassic

@MOAMNETWORK I’m a one and a half year natural gal! Haven’t looked back since my Big Chop! I love my hair and its so exciting to see my natural hair do its thing! I’ve been learning a lot about me and having fun with it at the same time!

  56. MOAMNETWORK

@NappyGurl1979 havent heard of that product but will hav a looky thanx, & yeah i cant do the twa ;[ i really dont suit short hair, i had it b4 but didnt like it coz of the bak of me head shape ha ha x

      1. CocoaPiiNK

wen mii haiir was longer ii diid a lot of braiid outs, twiist outs, rod sets. an ii rocked puffs and up-dos and fro- hawks bt now mii haiir iiz so short ii dont do anythiin style wise to iit. ii also liike using oils like tea tree, olive, coconut, and lavender. ii love mii haiir after a gud oil treatment. bt ii haven’t found a staple product dat ii really love yet so ii’ve been trying different moisturiizers. wat are ur staple products???

  58. naominnie

Ah, I’m growing mine out too. Been about 9 months/ I t was fine at first but now I’m in Japan it kinda drove me crazy in the summer what with the humidity. I usually just you braid outs and twist outs, sometimes hair pieces. I deep condition once a week, every time I wash it. Oiling your hair is wonderful too. And wearing a satin a scarf or cap. Sometimes I straighten it (but on a low heat) Can’t wait to not be transitioning anymore…was kinda worried at first that my hair wasn’t coming in in the texture I had as a kid but it’s actually fine now. Good Luck Peeks!

yeeeah! welcome to the club ;p i luv oil feels so fab on the hair, wot kind of oil? . totally agree cant wait till its at a good length & how the curls will look. aww everyone has been so supportive so it deffo helps.

I started growing out my hair (from relaxer) when i was 16… But I really started looking after it and maintaining it properly last december.

My recommendations are; profective deep conditioner (leave in for 1 hour after shampooing and conditioning, then wash out and blowdry) AMAZING product (every 2 week).
Trims every 6 weeks (absolute golden rule) my hair has grown so much this year.
only use heat once every 2 weeks – therefore don’t get hair wet or steamed out at all costs…. use a good shower cap and keep an umbrella.
    protective hairstyles are good.
Moisturise the ends of hair as often as needed, oil or grease depending on hair texture.

  60. NappyGurl1979

I think that you would look awesome with a twa (teenie weenie afro) but I uderstand if u don’t want to. There is a line of products out for women who are transitioning. I think by Jamaican Mango and Lime. Can u get that brand in the UK?

  61. ncatstate

It’s cool that you already wear wigs anyway, that will definitely make your transition smoother. If you get tired of wigs you could try twist outs, braid outs or flexi rod sets so you don’t have to constantly flat iron your hair to match the two textures. I transitioned for 1 full year before I cut off the relaxed ends so, don’t feel bad for not doing the Big Chop. All the best to you!! I know you will look great!

  62. Babyfullable

My hair was down to my belly button but was so dead at the ends from straightening, curling, dying so i chopped it like to ur length and im not used to short hair so i havent done anything to my hair in 5 mos. but now its long enought to where I will wear it down and curl it with rollers once in a while I never brush my hair when wet and i deep condition every other week its grown 5 1/2 inchs i dont need grease or anything cause i have wavy/straight hair. . ur hair looks cute !

  63. yagurlbubblez

oh yeah, also, w/ u straightening it w/ your natural hair. you may cause heat damage to your natural hair, which may give less curls when you finally get rid of all the relaxed ends. the big chop would definitely be better, cuter, and fierce girl. i can see you w/ a short curly cut.

  64. yagurlbubblez

I think if you did do the big chop. you would look freaking fierce, especially w/ the curls. For dryness, what you want to do is condition condition condition and do not use shampoos all over, just the roots and scalp only. Jojoba oil is best. its good for always conditioning your hair. and any other tips i would love to help 😀 i am a natural so yeah. im a sooooo excited for you!

  65. xineotheoneix

Deep Conditioning your hair will help with the dryness greatly, you could also just put a satin bonnet on at night to keep your hair from drying out from the pillow. or get satin pillow cases, cotton is drying and tugs at the hair. Congrats on taking this journey, before you know it your hair will be long and healthy. and versatile.
